Last year, the Royal Hotel in the centre of Hayfield Village closed its doors. Shortly after its closure, the Hayfield community came together to put forward a proposal to reopen the pub. Various fundraising events are taking place over the next few months to raise money for the ‘Save The Royal’ campaign, including a Hayfield Artists art auction.
Organised by Sue McCall, the Hayfield Artists auction will be held at St Matthew’s Church on Saturday the 26th of October. Featuring local art by local artists, the artworks can be viewed from 4:30pm with the auction taking place at 7pm. Hosted by Mike Greensmith, there will be a refreshments and nibbles for visitors. All proceeds go directly to ‘Save The Royal’.

Thank you for making our bank holiday weekend so spectacular. We’re off for a lie down after welcoming 250+ visitors through our doors over the 3 days. We saw every kind of weather and appreciate those who still made the effort to visit despite the driving rain!
We’re off to Finland for a short holiday to visit family. The gallery will close at 3pm Wednesday 29th of May and reopen on the Wednesday 5th of June at 11am.
Across the whole of Derbyshire, artists are exhibiting their work, putting on special exhibitions or welcoming you into their own studios for the Derbyshire Open Arts event. This year, we were unable to commit to take part in Derbyshire Open Arts due to our landlord putting our building up for sale BUT we will still be open all three days of the event as part of the Hayfield Artists arts trail. The village is buzzing with creativity and there is a great collection of artists exhibiting that weekend, so be sure not to miss it!
Simon Bridges moved to Hayfield in 1993 for a taste of country life and the draw of capturing images of the local area led to the opening of Elephantstones Gallery. Simon shoots photographic images of landscapes in broad vista and textural detail.
Illustrator Eve Bridges has lived in Hayfield her whole life. A recent MA art school graduate and associate member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art, Eve works digitally creating unusual illustrated landscapes by using a mixed media approach.
The Hayfield Artists Arts trail is perfect for art lovers. With 24 artists across 7 locations, from sculpture to stained glass, there is something for everyone to enjoy! We will have printed copies of the map available at the gallery over the weekend, so be sure to stop by and collect one! We’re also happy to help if you need some guidance on getting to the other venues.
Named after the elephantine jumble of rocks on the edge of kinder plateau, Elephantstones Gallery is a family run business, set up by photographer Simon Bridges, textile designer Suzanne Bridges and illustrator Eve Bridges.
It all started from “why don’t we put a few pictures in the office window to brighten things up”. Passers by made gentle enquires as to how much they cost and the penny dropped. Elephantstones was born!
Elephantstones is home to photography and artwork unashamedly intended to trigger a memory or evoke an image of a visit to the Peak District.
The gallery is filled with beautiful art. From photographic prints to illustrated landscapes, we have something for everyone! Most of the gallery’s artwork is made in house Simon and Eve.
The gallery also has an eclectic collection of objet, glass, ceramics, homewares, and things that we’ve instantly connected with. Curated by Suzanne, she’s the one to chat to about the origins of all our unique collections!

We’ve extended our collection of artworks by Elephantstones illustrator Eve Lumai Bridges to include some of her non-landscape works which are inspired by found photography - you’ll even be able to see some of the works Eve has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts down in London! Eve has also curated a collection of unframed prints from the Eve Illustration Print Shop for you to browse at the gallery. Elephantstones photographer Simon Bridges is also working on a new collection of landscapes inspired by his trips to the Scottish Highlands featuring mostly the Isle of Skye! Coming soon…

Simon Bridges moved to Hayfield in 1993 for a taste of country life. He is, apparently, older than he looks, but not wiser.
His career began as a commercial photographer, covering product pack shots, fashion, architecture, right through to album covers for bands.
He now runs a creative and marketing consultancy business, Carbonsix and, since taking an office in Hayfield, the draw of capturing images of the local area led to the opening of Elephantstones Gallery.
Simon Bridges captures photographic images of landscapes in broad vista and textural detail. Simon has little interest in photographic technology and focuses more on composition and mood.

Nestled at the bottom of Kinder Scout in the village of Hayfield, Elephanstones Gallery is home to local landscape art created by photographer Simon Bridges and illustrator Eve Lumai Bridges (Simon’s daughter). Eve uses a mixture or sparing linework, found photography, gestural brush marks and texture to create her digital landscape works. Eve will also be showcasing a selection of her personal work at the gallery specially for the weekend!
Eve has recently completed a Masters in Illustration with Distinction from Manchester School of Art where she also achieved a 1st class degree. In 2021, Eve was selected to become an associate member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts after being a graduate member of the academy for three years after being awarded the MAFA Graduate Award at her Manchester School of Art BA degree show.
Eve has exhibited works in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and also had her work chosen for film director Danny Boyle’s launch of the School of Digital Arts in Manchester.
